Judge Spears was nominated for Commission Vice Chair and Ron Lanoue was nominated
as Secretary for the Commission. Both nominations were approved unanimously.
Reports were heard from all three subcommittees on pro se, legal services
and pro bono goals and objectives.
Arkansas Access
to Justice Commission Update May
2005
The Arkansas Supreme Court recently created a state Access to Justice Commission
comprised of sixteen members from the law, commerce, education, public
service and non-profit sectors. Chairman of the Commission is Charles Goldner,
Dean of the Bowen School of Law at UALR. The mission of the Commission
is to provide equal access to justice in civil cases to all Arkansans.
The Commission has decided to organize its work through three task groups
that focus on pro bono, pro se, and legal services organizations

to Justice Commission Conducts Second Meeting November
2004
The second meeting of the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission was held
on November 12, 2004 at the UALR Bowen School of Law. As a whole, the Commission
will meet quarterly on the third Friday of the Month, beginning in January
2005. As means to meet the needs of low income Arkansans, it was decided
that committees focusing on the areas of Pro Bono, Pro Se, and Legal Services
would be formed.
Access
to Justice Commission Underway October 2004
October 15, 2004, Chief Justice Betty Dickey kicked off the first meeting
of the Access to Justice Commission by welcoming the Commission
members and stressing the importance of the job ahead of them and reaffirming
the commitment of the court to addressing the need for access
to the
justice system for low-income Arkansans.
